Oliver has a psychosocial disability and for 16 years, he struggled to survive on the Newstart allowance.

Despite his best efforts to remain in a stable home, he had regularly become homeless due to the financial difficulties of attempting to make ends meet.

How PWDA helped

When Oliver approached PWDA for assistance, he found there were a number of resources and supports that he was eligible for but didn’t know existed. PWDA advocates shared details of these resources and options and supported him to gain access to them.

We also showed Oliver that he met the requirements for the Disability Support Pension, which was far more suitable for his needs.

Once his claim was successful, it increased Oliver’s income and opened up some new options for him, including now being able to maintain a home and reconnect with his family.
