There are many ways to support us:
Make a Donation Becoming a Disability Rights Defender Volunteering and student placement Becoming a financial memberThere has long been a commitment by governments in Australia to provide community based accommodation services to people with disability.
Over time this commitment has decreased to the point where a number of governments have redeveloped old institutions and provided congregate models of care to people with disability. This is in breach with governments obligations under the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
The inaction from successive governments has meant that a number of different organisations and individuals have come together with a shared purpose – to get all Australian governments to deliver on this commitment to the closure of all institutions once and for all. We are holding them account to ensure an end to the segregation, congregation, and isolation of people with disability from the community.
People with disability are being Shut In to institutions and Shut Out of the community. This is a human rights abuse and it has to end.
