2010 Federal Election Campaign

PWD has a vision of a socially just, accessible and inclusive community, in which the human rights, citizenship, contribution, potential and diversity of all people with disability are respected and celebrated.

We believe that people with disability are entitled to the full enjoyment of our citizenship rights and responsibilities. One way of expressing our citizenship rights is by voting. The election will be held on Saturday 21 August. Voting is compulsory.

PWD Federal Election Platform

PWD has identified key issue areas that need to be addressed by the next Australian Government.  We have also provided information on the practicalities of voting and sourced news on issues that are important to us.
The five issues identified in our platform are:

  • Making Rights Real - Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)
  • Self Determination – Gaining control of our lives and our supports
  • An End to Institutions – Creating a non-segregated society
  • Mental Health – Recognising and Realising the rights of people with psychosocial disability
  • Violence against people with disability - Preventing and responding to abuse & neglect
