PWDA Annual Reports & Strategic Plan

2015/16- CURRENT Annual Report

2014/15 - Annual Report

Strategic Plan

29 August 2011: Vale Robert Farley

The Board and staff of PWD were deeply saddened by the news of the death of Robert Farley on 28 August 2011.  Robert served as President of PWD from 2006 to 2010, during the period when Australia signed and then ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

He made a significant contribution to the rights of people with disability, through the positions he held at PWDA and with the Disability Council of NSW.  He provided advice to NSW Ministers for Disability Services through his tenure as Official Community Visitor and was very involved in the disability community of the Newcastle and Hunter region serving on the Board of Disability Services – Port Stephens Inc.

Your use of language when referring to or talking about people with disability has an impact on the way people with disability feel and the way they are perceived by other people in society.

It is important that you are aware of the meaning behind the words you use when talking to, referring to or working with people with disability.  Some terms and language can be a barrier to full participation in society and also can mean people with disability feel hurt and excluded.
